SXS dewar has arrived in Tsukuba

Even though the SXS is a square only 4 mm on a side it must be housed in a giant “thermos” known as a dewar. This is because the SXS must be operated at extremely low temperatures. After having spent a long while in Shikoku where it was subjected to performance and thermal tests, at long last the dewar has arrived in Tsukuba! The object loaded onto the truck is the container for the dewar. The dewar has a diameter of about one meter, but its size can easily be imagined from looking at its container! In this way all of the instruments for ASTRO-H are being amassed at Tsukuba.
